The State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire that destroyed the $60 million complex in the heart of the Cedar-Lee district. CLEVELAND HEIGHTS , Ohio -- The state agency leading the investigation into the massive fire at the planned Marquee at Cedar Lee apartment complex has not found any evidence that the building was tampered with before the Jan. 24 fire.

The team is made up of the marshal’s Fire and Explosion Investigations Bureau and Forensic Laboratory, Cleveland Heights' fire and police departments, Hillcrest Heights Fire Investigation Unit, Chagrin Valley Dispatch, and the Justice Department’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The fire, which was first reported about 7 p.m. Jan. 24, burned for over 20 hours before firefighters from multiple agencies were able to extinguish it.

The plans included more than 180 luxury apartments and 8,500 square feet of commercial retail space. It was built on 5.2 acres of land the city purchased in 2005.
