Negros Occidental Provincial Commission on Elections Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said Monday, October 23, that there is no election-related violence yet in the province as the October 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections draws near. Ananoria said the encounter between the government troopers and members of the New People's Army in Barangay Canlusong, E.B. Magalona is not considered election-related violence.
In the province, 15,000 teachers are gearing up to man the polling precincts, according to the Department of Education report. Based on the updated honoraria, the poll body raised the compensation from P6,000 and P5,000 to P10,000 and P9,000 for electoral chairpersons and board members, respectively. Comelec has assured the early release of the teachers' honoraria.
