The union and the federal government have been negotiating for more than two weeks about key issues including wages and telework. Both sides say they were at the table on Saturday afternoon.

“This screams of incompetence of Mona Fortier as the president of Treasury Board and her team,” Aylward said, noting that he’d like to see the Prime Minister get involved to help move things along.

The statement indicated that while negotiators and their offer waited, PSAC’s leader chose instead to “go on television to complain he had not received it.” Going into bargaining, PSAC called for 4.5-per-cent annual wage increases for Treasury Board members. “They need to be serious about negotiations,” Aylward said. “I’ve been involved in this union a long time, I’ve never seen a round of bargaining like this. The disrespect at the table from the Treasury Board and from this government.”
