Following an incident where a Gettysburg College student carved a slur into the chest of another student on Sept. 6, Gettysburg Police state that no charges wil

l be filed by the victim and that the investigation will continue through the college's disciplinary process .The incident was reported by Gettysburg College on Sept. 18 in a statement addressing a report of a student using a plastic or ceramic tool to scratch a racial slur into a fellow teammate on the college swim team .

"The College has received a deeply concerning report of a racial slur being scratched onto a student using a plastic or ceramic tool. This is a serious report, which is being actively assessed through the student conduct process," Gettysburg College stated. A statement from the Gettysburg Chief of Police states that the victim had chosen not to file charges after reportedly being "encouraged" to contact law enforcement by Gettysburg College. Police state that they do not know the identity of the victim or any involved participants at this time.A statement from the victim's parents detail that complaints were filed with the NAACP Harrisburg chapter and the NAACP Pennsylvania Conference.
