Officers found a man dead inside the Alpine Apartments on Monday afternoon but failed to locate the suspect during a SWAT response that lasted hours.

Officers responding just after 3:45 p.m. to the Alpine Apartments on Mockingbird Drive found a man dead inside with “at least one gunshot wound to the upper body,” the Anchorage Police Department said in an The police department’s special operations unit responded, including SWAT as well as technical support, crisis negotiation and mobile intervention teams, police said. Unit members left the area about seven hours later, according to the update.
