Gabby Gonzalez also homered and Nicole Giglio knocked in a run for St. John Vianney. Sophomore pitcher Madison McDougall gave up just four hits and one earned run while striking out nine. St. John Vianney will travel to top-seeded and No. 3 Notre Dame on Monday for the South Jersey Non-Public A championship game. The Lancers will be trying to reach their second straight state final after winning the state championship last year.
Thursday’s semifinal was just the latest in a rivalry that has become the best in the state over the last decade. St. John Vianney defeated Donovan Catholic, 10-9, in nine innings of the Shore Conference final a few weeks ago. This was the sixth time since 2016 the teams met in the postseason.
