At the top of the ballot in South Jersey is the District 3 Senate race between Republican Ed Durr and Democratic John Burzichelli.
New Jersey wraps up voting Tuesday for a new Legislature, with all 120 seats on the ballot, as Republicans fight for control of either chamber for the first time in more than two decades.
"The Democrat base feels more engaged. Two years ago they felt sort of distant. Not hostile but distant. This year it's been a much different reception on doors. So in this case having that base active can make the difference in a low turnout year," said Burzichelli.from former Senate President Steve Sweeney in 2021 in what many saw as a shocking upset.
"Theres a real thirst to retake that seat. I think Durr is seen as a controversial figure. It'll be interesting to see how independents come out in this election. There are more Democrats in the third than Republicans but the independents will really sway the outcome," said Froonjian.
