Commuters traveling between New Jersey and New York City are facing major disruptions Monday morning.
Amtrak overhead wire issues in the Hudson River Tunnels are causing delays of up to 60 minutes into and out of Penn Station. NJ Transit tickets and passes are being cross-honored on all NJ Transit buses, private carrier buses, and the PATH system.
Due to Amtrak overhead wire issues and infrastructure damage inside the Hudson River Tunnels, NJ TRANSIT has announced severe delays and service diversions affecting thousands of riders. NJ Transit says to expect delays of up to 60 minutes for trains traveling into and out of New York Penn Station. All Midtown Direct rail service is currently being diverted to Hoboken Terminal instead of continuing to New York.
The delays come just days after a fire onboard an Amtrak work train inside one of the Hudson River tunnels snarled train traffic for hours. To help commuters reach their destinations, NJ TRANSIT rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored across multiple transit systems. "I’m very late. It’s supposed to be work at eight. I’m gonna be late," one commuter said, as another echoed the sentiment, "Very frustrating when you’re trying to get to work early and on time.
""t’s terrible, man. It’s every single day it's like this. I think it’s crazy. They make people pay to ride the train when they’re never here.
They’re never on time. They’re always canceled. There’s two canceled right now. There’s three delayed, seven in the morning.
You know, I’ve been working all night long. I’m ready to go home. It’s annoying.
"Tens of thousands of commuters and visitors will soon rely on NJ Transit to get around the area for the World Cup, America250 events and Knicks NBA Finals.
