“To be able to write about something that relates to me and that also can relate to others is, I think, one of the best things about journalism,” Amaro said. This Friday, more than 50 students from Rutgers University, as well as some from Bloomfield College and Seton Hall, will have the opportunity to participate in NJ Advance Media’s second annual “Journalism Day.”

Throughout the day, students will be able to attend a resume workshop and educational seminars led by reporters and editors from New Jersey’s largest digital news site and publication. In a message to those who attend Journalism Day, Pinkston expressed his admiration for all the student journalists and emphasized that the profession “demands a commitment to honesty, curiosity, and hard work.”

“When our diversity committee launched Journalism Day at Rutgers Newark last year, we wanted not only to offer aspiring journalists of color hands-on education, we were eager to help these college students with financial support,” said Enrique Lavin, a longtime senior editor at NJ Advance Media and co-chair of the committee.
