Murphy’s office has not yet responded to Gothamist’s request for comment. Helmy could not yet be reached for comment. Murphy faced substantial criticism for supporting his wife’s campaign, and some analysts noted a similar pattern with his appointment of his former chief of staff. “We’re talking about an appointment that’s going to be maybe 100 days … so the number of times when George Helmy would actually cast a vote is going to be pretty small,” Rasmussen said.
