A sophisticated criminal ring has been busted in New Jersey for siphoning millions of dollars in profits from the resale of diesel fuel obtained with stolen credit card information.
A sophisticated criminal ring has been dismantled in New Jersey, responsible for siphoning an estimated $3.4 million from the resale of diesel fuel purchased using stolen credit card information. The scheme, which spanned multiple states, involved the installation of skimming devices at gas pumps to capture credit and debit card data from unsuspecting victims.
The fraudulent transactions were orchestrated by 25 individuals and four companies, with Carlos Alvarez-Moreno, 30, and Javier Reyes Linares, 28, both from Elizabeth, New Jersey, identified as the alleged leaders. The operation primarily targeted diesel fuel, utilizing an intricate network to transport and resell the stolen product. Investigators uncovered approximately 500 cloned cards during their arrests, along with evidence of master keys used to access and modify gas pumps. The stolen credit card data was exploited to create fraudulent cards, enabling the ring to purchase massive quantities of diesel fuel. This fuel was then transported in vehicles outfitted with large tanks, including an ice cream truck, and delivered to trucking companies. Glotrac Builders LLC, a defendant company based in Newark, was identified as the primary purchaser of the diesel, paying an estimated $2.88 million in cash or checks to shell companies to acquire tens of thousands of gallons. The stolen fuel was then resold to third-party trucks and trucking companies, facilitating the ring's lucrative operation. The investigation, initiated by the Gloucester Township Police Department, involved a collaborative effort with numerous law enforcement agencies, including the Pennsylvania State Police and police departments in Bucks County and Lancaster, Pennsylvania
