Trackless technology means that every ride aboard the new attraction is a unique experience.
The through line of Runaway Railway is Mickey and Minnie’s attempt to chase down and collect the train cars that scattered after Mickey crashed his roadster into a railway track switch. But there’s a B story going on, too, one that many visitors will miss on their first time through the ride — Pluto’s attempt to return their picnic basket to Mickey and Minnie after they lost it during the preshow.
The show scenes depict fresh obstacles in our heroes’ journeys and the timing of those story beats varies by which train car you are in. You can see different details and hear different dialogue from the various cars, and then the order of the train cars changes after each scene. To the guest, it feels like cartoon chaos on Rashomon’s Railway. Behind the scenes, it’s all a deft act of timing that helps make each ride on Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway feel unique.
