Nikon unveiled its latest technologies and a partnership with NASA for lunar exploration at CES 2025.
CES 2025 saw Nikon showcase its latest technologies, including its Z Series mirrorless cameras and robot vision system. Attendees could have their portraits taken with the Nikon Z50II. The highlight was a groundbreaking partnership with NASA to develop the Handheld Universal Lunar Camera (HULC) for the Artemis campaign. This collaboration aims to support NASA 's return to the Moon and future missions to Mars.
Nikon's Z9, already sent to the ISS, will be modified for the Artemis III mission, capturing images and video on the Moon's surface. A thermal insulation blanket will protect the camera from the harsh lunar environment. Geoffrey Coalter, Communications Manager at Nikon, explained how the Z9, along with the thermal blanket, will be used for the Artemis mission, marking mankind's return to the Moon
