Nikon has released the highly anticipated Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 S lens, promising exceptional optical performance and beautiful bokeh.

Nikon has finally unveiled the Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 S, a lens that has been highly anticipated by photographers and enthusiasts alike. This new addition to Nikon 's Z-mount lens lineup promises to deliver exceptional optical performance, boasting outstanding sharpness and a beautifully rendered bokeh. For some time, rumors and speculation swirled around the potential release of this lens, as Nikon had previously indicated its intention to develop a 35mm f/1.2 S lens.

Although the company surprised many with the launch of a 35mm f/1.4 lens last year, which wasn't originally on their roadmap, many remained confident that the f/1.2 S lens was still in development. Nikon has now confirmed those expectations, delivering a lens that lives up to the hype. The Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 S shares a similar design concept with Nikon's existing 50mm f/1.2 S and 85mm f/1.2 S lenses, utilizing a construction of 17 elements arranged in 15 groups, including three extra-low dispersion glass elements and one aspherical extra-low dispersion element to minimize chromatic aberrations. The lens features an aperture range of f/1.2 to f/16, controlled by an 11-bladed diaphragm that Nikon claims produces exceptionally smooth bokeh. To enhance image quality further, the lens incorporates a variety of Nikon's proprietary coatings, including Meso Amorphous Coat, Nano Crystal Coat, and ARNEO Coat, which work together to minimize ghosting and flare. For focusing, Nikon employs a multi-focusing system, utilizing multiple stepping motor drive units to ensure both speed and precision in autofocus operation. The Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 S also caters to videographers with a clickless control ring and promises suppressed focus breathing. The lens barrel includes two L=Fn buttons that can be programmed with a variety of functions, providing added customization and control. Built to withstand the rigors of professional use, the lens is sealed to provide superior dust and drip-resistant performance. The Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 S is a premium lens and comes with a premium price tag. Nikon has announced that the lens will be available in late February 2025 for $2,799.95
