Nikole Vaughn remembers breaking down in tears in her early days as a programmer, hammering away late into the night on code that just wouldn’t run. She was fresh out of college, in her first year working for Andersen Consulting , now known as Accenture . Those were the days before AI coding helpers — “there was not even Google !” she said — and a misplaced colon might derail an entire program. One day, in the depth of despair, she called her father, a longtime employee at IBM .
Check out the rest of last year’s honorees During the COVID-19 pandemic, they had to conduct their classes virtually, which allowed for students from as far away as California, New York and Florida to join. She’s now considering offering hybrid classes in the coming term. “What I like about virtual is it requires you to be prepared. You can’t wing it when you’ve got people on the screen,” she said. “You have to have the code ready to go.
