Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) are tied for second place in a poll of New Hampshire voters commissioned in the days after the first 2024 primary debate.

Although former President Donald Trump dominates the 2024 field at 47% among likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire, Haley and DeSantis both garnered 10% support, according to polling from NMB Research. It's a sign of Haley's rise after her headline-attracting performance at the debate in Milwaukee and a sign of DeSantis's second-place status weakening as other candidates battle to become the top Trump alternative candidate in the field.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and political novice Vivek Ramaswamy both polled at 8% among the survey participants, while no other presidential candidate polled above 5%. Ramaswamy, however, was the second-choice candidate for 18% of voters. DeSantis's campaign has faced a tough summer of staff shake-ups, campaign resets, and a decline in polling as Trump's numbers increased, threatening his ability to claim persuasively that he is the most capable candidate to defeat President Joe Biden in next year's elections. In contrast, Haley has consistently polled in the single digits but has started to gain some momentum after a debate in which she clashed with Ramaswamy over foreign policy.

Yet other polling shows DeSantis comfortably in second place behind Trump and ahead of all other rivals. A RealClearPolitics poll average shows Trump at 53.6%, DeSantis at 14.3%, Ramaswamy at 7.1%, and Haley at 6%.The Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary, the first two nominating contests in the GOP primary schedule, will be key to Trump's rivals challenging his hold on the party in the 2024 race. But so far, the former president's hold has not abated.

The NMB Research poll was conducted Aug. 25-31, after the Aug. 23 RNC debate, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.46%.
