Nicole Kidman went for a mermaid-inspired look at the 'Spellbound' premiere, wearing her hair in soft waves that resembled those created by a three-barrel iron or a crimper.
When I was in high school in the mid-2000s, my cheerleading squad used to fight over the three-barrel iron. We called it a “waver” at the time, and it was like an ‘80s crimper, only with much thicker, wider bends. We’d shellack our hair with a ton of grape-scented Aussie hairspray, then get to crimping, watching our hair sizzle in the mirror. It looks like Nicole Kidman is also a fan of the tool, as her Spellbound premiere look is getting dangerously close to bringing back crimped hair.
Kidman plays the queen of the fictional kingdom of Lumbria in the animated movie—her Being the Ricardos costar Javier Bardem is the king—so the loose waves fit the theme and worked beautifully with her ornate white dress. She wore a portion of her hair over her shoulder and the rest brushed to one side for extra romance, and her bronzy makeup picked up the warm tones of her hair color.
