Little Gold MenYou were on the road touring and doing stand-up until really recently, right?Yeah, I was doing stand-up I think until the weekend before they were like, everybody, stay inside. Traveling was kind of weird because nobody was acting like it was a big deal. Even without a pandemic, I wiped down the seats with like a Clorox wipe or whatever. If I sleep on a plane, I put something over my face in case I cough in my sleep or something.
There is this thing where you have a podcast and you’re in people’s ears and they feel like they know you in this way. It’s way different than even being on television, I think. Yeah, I got really, really, really lucky. Magical elves brought the idea to me and they were like, we’re a fan of your comedy. They were really worried about the host toeing the line between being insulting but calling out the reality of the situation. I was like, well, being mean is not my jam. I do not like being mean to people, but I think I can figure out a way to be funny but also be like, what you made is pretty wild, right? And then hope that they can laugh at themselves.
I was watching a first-season episode cause I was curious about how the show has grown since it’s been a hit. It’s the episode with Jay Chandrasekhar and he had to pick up his kids in the middle of taping. It’s in the show where you guys are just waiting for him to come back. And you say something like, This is aversion of a TV show. It looks to me like the show has gotten more polished since then.
