Nicolas Cage opens up about the one kind of movie he has yet to make, and ponders why he hasn't gotten the chance to do so: 'I haven’t done a musical yet. I’d like to try that. I’m not much of a singer.'
After over four decades in Hollywood, Nicolas Cage reveals exactly which type of movie he's still waiting to do. Cage's mainstream acting career started in 1981, and he quickly grew into a prominent and well-respected actor. Most recently, Cage played himself in the comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and he ventured into the Western genre for the first time with Butcher's Crossing.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Yet, as an actor well-known for his serious roles and blockbusters, Cage is still missing out on one particular genre. In an interview with Empire, Cage opens up about the one thing that has eluded him in his career: Musicals. He even considers why he may not have gotten a musical role so far, stating:
“I haven’t done a musical yet. I’d like to try that. I’m not much of a singer. I did sing okay in Wild At Heart, I thought, but I’ve since blown my voice out singing ‘Purple Rain’ incorrectly in karaoke bars. I think I’d make a good Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar.”Every Upcoming Nicolas Cage Movie While he doesn't have a musical coming anytime soon, Cage still has some major projects lined up.
Within those upcoming movies are parts that will allow Cage to really stretch his acting muscles and try new things. The Old Way will continue his recent foray into the Western genre, and Renfield will see Cage starring as the classic vampire Dracula in a horror-comedy flick that will find him really flexing his talent as an actor and as a comedian. In it, the infamous Dracula proves to be an awful boss that draws the ire of those around him.
What Musicals Can Best Suit Nicolas Cage? While there aren't many musical roles that would perfectly fit Cage, there are still some that can suit him well. Years ago, there was an Oliver! remake in development. If that ever gets moving again, Cage could easily find himself as Fagin or Mr. Brownlow in the Oliver Twist adaptation. He would do well as either the mischievous criminal or the kind grandfather, and either role would let him show off his skills.
