At First Minister's Questions on Thursday, Scottish Conservatives leader Douglas Ross claimed the details emerged from a leaked document.

Seamus Searson, the SSTA's general secretary, said:"If you start cutting back the number of teachers, you are really damaging education. After the pandemic we are still in the stage of recovery and a lot of youngsters have missed out on basic learning coming through.

"Because of the pandemic, youngsters are potentially up to about two years behind where they should be. If you don't put extra resources in, all you're going to do is make that even worse.Glasgow city council stressed that the proposals are such and no decision has been taken.
