New manager at Easter Road has been widely praised for his role in resurrecting Jason Cummings career - and insists man management is a huge part of his success.
He was the man that helped Jason Cummings reinvent his playing career Down Under. Now Nick Montgomery has revealed the former Hibee helped HIM take the chance to move his career onto a new level in Leith.
Montgomery himself admits the 28-year-old was “down and out” and in desperate need of someone to show belief in his ability when he offered a career lifeline in New South Wales. “What Jason did for Australian football was fantastic. He is an inspiration to show that sometimes you can be down and out and just need someone to believe in you and give you a bit of love.
“That relationship with the players is really important, it doesn’t matter whether they’re young or senior. That honest relationship, it was something that I really enjoyed in my career with certain managers. The Yorkshireman is a straight shooter. Not one for talking ‘football philosophies’. More basic fundamentals. He said: “Principles are principles and while I’d not like to talk about philosophies, they can be implemented in any league.
“The supporters should feel that’s their team. They should feel that they are going to turn up for games at the weekend and know that it’s not off the cuff, it’s a style of play that is easy for them to identify everything week, whether that’s home or away.
