Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has criticized the sport after fellow countryman Max Purcell was provisionally suspended for doping. Kyrgios expressed his frustration on social media, questioning the handling of doping allegations in tennis.

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has spoken out again on doping in the sport after a fellow countryman was slapped with a provisional suspension. An Australian US Open winner has accepted a provisional suspension for doping, sparking some strong words from Nick Kyrgios on the current state of tennis. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed on Monday doubles star Max Purcell had elected to enter into a voluntary provisional suspension under the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme.

The 26-year-old has admitted to a breach of Article 2.2 of the TADP relating to the use of a Prohibited Method, and requested to enter into a provisional suspension on 10 December 2024, the ITIA said. Purcell's suspension began on December 12 2024, and time served under provisional suspension will be credited against any future sanction. Nick Kyrgios has responded after a fellow Aussie accepted a provisional doping suspension. Fellow Australian Kyrgios has been outspoken on the issue of doping controversies in tennis, previously slamming men's no.1 Jannik Sinner and women's no.2 Iga Swiatek over allegations of using steroids. Following the announcement of Purcell's provisional suspension, Kyrgios responded briefly, writing on X: \'Gee wiz our sport is in the mud at the moment\'. He also shared a post from someone who asked \'where was this announcement when establishment dopers such as Iga and Sinner were suspended?\'. Sinner was declared innocent by the ITIA despite testing positive in two anti-doping tests at the US' Indian Wells leading to calls from Kyrgios to suggest a two-year suspension
