Love Again’s protagonist, Mira Ray has lost all her hope to find love again after her fiancé, John, is killed in a road accident in front of her, and a big part of the movie focuses on her coming to terms with the loss.
Mira’s sister Suzy spends the best part of Love Again’s beginning trying to get Mira to meet someone new, pushing her over and over to give dating a try and even persuading her to use dating apps. While a meet-cute eventually gets Mira and Rob acquainted, leading to their blossoming relationship, Mira still spends some time on dating apps, not understanding the principle behind most of the information her prospective matches share.
Chopra Jonas revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly how shooting those scenes was so funny she couldn’t stop laughing, having a great time doing improv in the taxi scene that even the crew ended up laughing, leading to them all having to do another take. The idea to involve Nick Jonas came from Love Again director Jim Strouse, but the scene was already written to portray such a terrible date before they started considering the lead actress's husband.
The Wild Reason Why Nick Jonas Won His Love Again Cameo With Rob and Mira’s scenes being shot in the UK in 2020 during COVID, Priyanka Chopra Jonas suggested Nick Jonas for the cameo because if any other actor were to be cast, he would have had to quarantine for 14 days just “to lick her face.” However, with Nick Jonas already being with her in the UK and part of their COVID bubble, he was the perfect choice.
Even if Nick Jonas’s cameo as Joel in Love Again came from a place of necessity, he still proved himself more than up for the role. Between all the exceedingly great things the cast and crew said about him and how iconic the scene ended up being, he clearly was the best choice to play the egocentric personal trainer. In the end, Love Again was made even more memorable because it put real-life partners Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas in such a hilarious scene of opposition.
