The veteran has played just two snaps for the Indianapolis Colts season, but he is known for leading a Super Bowl win.
INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts are making their third change of the season at starting quarterback.
This time the Colts are turning over the job to veteran backup Nick Foles, rather than second-year passer Sam Ehlinger, who started two games earlier in the season in a move that was initiated by team owner Jim Irsay. Foles, the 33-year-old who led the Eagles to a Super Bowl, has been one of the league’s best backups for a long time, and he was originally brought to Indianapolis to reunite with former Colts coach Frank Reich and be ready to make a spot start for a team Indianapolis thought would be fighting for a playoff spot.
But Foles’s role has shifted considerably over the course of the season. Indianapolis elevated Ehlinger over Foles five games into the season, then moved Foles into a backup role when Ehlinger jumped into the starting role, then sat inactive for three weeks as the team’s No. 3 under Saturday, only to move back into the backup role three weeks ago against Dallas.
