Nick Bosa is now the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history after agreeing to a five-year, $170 million contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers.
The $34 million annual average in Bosa’s new contract is more than $2 million per year more than the Los Angeles Rams are paying Aaron Donald, who was previously the NFL’s highest-paid defensive player.
Bosa’s record-breaking contract extension comes after a dominant 2022 season in which he recorded a league-high 18.5 sacks. With 34 total sacks over the past two seasons while also being an elite run defender, Bosa has established himself as the NFL’s best defensive end. The former Ohio State defensive end did not participate in training camp or any preseason games for the 49ers as he held out for a new contract, but Bosa is expected to participate in the 49ers‘ season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday now that his contract has been finalized.
