Sandmann was 16 back in 2019 when a video of he and Native American elder Nathan Phillips taken at the Inidigineous People’s March in Washington trended across social media and was widely discussed by media outlets.

Sandmann’s lawsuits focused on Phillips’ claims that he blocked him from moving along, and he took aim at The New York Times, ABC News, NBC Universal Media, CBS News, Gannett and Rolling Stone, for reporting the man’s claims.

According to the Yahoo report, Federal Judge William O. Bertelsmann said in his ruling that Sandmann’s arguments defamation were “objectively unverifiable and thus unactionable claims.” “The media defendants were covering a matter of great public interest, and they reported Phillips’s first-person view of what he experienced,” the judge concluded. “This would put the reader on notice that Phillips was simply giving his perspective on the incident.”

Sandmann took to Twitter following the ruling to say that he and his family were disappointed, and that he was appealing the decision.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
