TODAY got a “master”-ful glimpse at what could be one of this summer’s blockbuster movies. “Masters of the Universe” stars Nicholas Galitzine, Idris Elba and Camila Mendes personally shared the trailer with TODAY for the live-action flick in a taped segment that aired March 31.
“Hey, PopStart crew, I’m Nicholas Galitzine,” the actor begins before Elba and Mendes introduce themselves. “‘Masters of the Universe’ is an epic adventure filled with creatures, heroes and villains and, most importantly, exhilarating fun,” he adds. “We are so excited to give the TODAY show an exclusive look at the official trailer for the film today,” Mendes adds. Galitzine plays the main character, He-Man, whose regular identity is Prince Adam of Eternia. Elba plays Man-At-Arms, also known as Duncan, while Mendes portrays Teela. The film also stars Jared Leto, who plays the villainous Skeletor, as well as Kristen Wiig, Morena Baccarin, Alison Brie and James Purefoy. In the film, Galitzine's character was raised on Earth to escape war. 'Everything changed since you left,' Mendes' Teela tells Adam as he sees his home planet decimated. The trailer also previews Adam returning to his ancestor's Power Sword and becoming He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe, as well as his epic showdown with Skeletor. “Masters of the Universe” is due in theaters June 5. It follows the first live action attempt to bring the He-Man character to life on the big screen, in a 1987 movie of the same name that starred Dolph Lundgren, Courteney Cox and Frank Langella.
