The 2021 census recorded 12,000 Muslims in Northern Ireland, although actual numbers are likely to be higher.
Next week will see the start of the holy month of Ramadan, which will be observed by millions of Muslims around the world including the estimated 12,000 based here in Northern Ireland.
This year Ramadan is due to begin on Monday, 11th March and end 30 days later on Tuesday, 9th April, from one sighting of the crescent moon to the next. The busy centre is used for daily prayers, with worshippers from across Belfast and beyond attending five times a day. It also runs a supplementary school in addition to hosting a range of community activities.
"We are also getting ready for the large numbers expected every day, hundreds of people so much larger than usual, especially for the main evening prayer.
