The company was founded in Belfast in 1803

John Riddel and Sons first opened on High Street and has expended over the years to now being the main supplier of hardware across Northern Ireland.

"John’s daughter Margaret married Samuel Barbour of the family who make Barbour coats. They have one daughter named Margaret who was John's only grandchild. "When they branched out into high-end retail, they were selling the likes of kitchenwear and household goods which we still stock to this day," Stephen continued.

"As the family prided itself on good works, their role was to provide both funding and management for hospitals and poor houses. The two ladies were a common sight in their Brougham pony and trap as they travelled between these venues."
