Manchester United's game with Manchester City clashes with this weekend's Irish Premiership kick-off

The NI Football League says it "considered" geo-blocking Saturday's free-to-air television coverage of the Community Shield as it clashes with the opening weekend of the Irish Premiership. However, the Community Shield between Manchester United and Manchester City is also being played on the same date, with ITV showing live coverage of the match which also kicks off at 3pm.

NIFL CEO Gerard Lawlor says a potential blockout would help protect Irish League attendances which have enjoyed an 86 percent rise since 2013. "We can't allow our clubs to suffer, and we spoke to UEFA. Our league might not be the biggest in the world, but we are growing it and we are passionate about it.
