Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust chief executive Martin Barkley said while it was desperately trying to find PPE the temporary measures were helping to conserve supplies.
He added the trust had purchased 6,000 fluid-repellent two-piece coveralls for the mean time, which satisfied Public Health England guidance. He said: ‘We fully recognise these coveralls are not ideal: they are more uncomfortable for staff and are more laborious to take on and off. ‘However, our first priority is to keep our staff safe, and these coveralls will do so in the absence of certainty about the next delivery of long-sleeved gowns.’A delivery of 84 tonnes of PPE for frontline NHS staff did not arrive on Sunday as planned.However, an unknown delay meant the shipment, including 400,000 surgical gowns, was not received.
