In his four years in the NHL, The Bread Man has proven himself as a point-a-game scorer who can elevate the players around him. He’s also trending upward, hitting a new career high with 87 points last season in Columbus. It’s a remarkable rise for a 30-year-old goaltender who came into the NHL when he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2010. Bobrovsky became a two-time Vezina Trophy winner after he was dealt to the Blue Jackets in exchange for three mid-round draft picks in 2012.

Signed by the Winnipeg Jets after four years at Providence College, Tanev’s role increased with every passing year. Last season, he hit career highs in goals , points and ice time, averaging 14:04 per game. As an unrestricted free agent one year ago, Maroon ended up taking a sweetheart $1.75 million contract with the Blues. But just like last year, he remains unsigned as free agency gets underway.

The Leafs filled Marleau’s role as veteran leader with Jason Spezza, a big-bodied center who is still excellent on faceoffs and is known for his dressing-room leadership. The 36-year-old could turn out to be one of the year’s biggest bargains after signing a one-year deal for the league minimum of $700,000.
