Several of the artists featured in Sunday's Super Bowl halftime show are known not only for their great talent, wealth and power, but for their misogynous attitudes—and in some cases abusive behavior—toward women. From jacksontkatz:

, was a groundbreaking examination of misogyny, homophobia and hypermasculinity in rap music.

Dre did address his long history of violence against women in a public statement in 2015 when the moviewas released, a biopic based on his group NWA that grossed over $200 million at the box office. His statement read: Black and Brown women have been the targets of abuse, which speaks to the level of misogynoir that has existed in hip-hop for decades, really since its inception.

Racial justice advocates and football fans of color would be outraged and would quickly point out the NFL’s hypocrisy. And yet, in the wake of #MeToo, and after the NFL has publicly proclaimed its support for victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence—even donating millions of dollars to advocacy organizations—they prop up three of hip-hop’s most consistent promoters of misogyny and violence toward girls and women. And they’ve been met with very little criticism or resistance.
