Texas running back Roschon Johnson was picked by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL draft on Saturday.
Roschon Johnson delivered 189 total yards on 33 touches as Texas’ wildcat quarterback last year against Kansas State. The bruising tailback could be pressed into service under center again.Arguably the best"backup" running back in the nation last season, Texas running back Roschon Johnson will begin his pro career with the Chicago Bears.
“Ro was the leader of our football team and was a guy that held himself and his teammates accountable each and every day,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said. “He’s highly competitive, very mature, and has an unbelievable work ethic. He’s an awesome team guy that beyond all of his speed, power and explosiveness, is extremely tough. He can play all three downs at running back, is excellent on special teams, and he’ll bring a great deal on and off the field to the Chicago Bears.
Johnson last season also returned a pair of kickoffs for 39 yards and led the Longhorns with seven special teams tackles, four on kickoffs and a team-best three on the punt unit. His well-regarded pass blocking also appealed to Chicago and a slew of other teams who were reportedly targeting"RoJo" on the final day of the draft.
