The New York Jets are better than they were a few days ago. But how much better?

Jets offensive tackle Olu Fashanu, the No. 11 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is introduced in Florham Park, N.J. on Friday, April 26, 2024.is about to reach its conclusion with the final round of the NFL Draft on Saturday.

And while there’s still a significant amount of work to be done — the Jets are scheduled to make five more picks on Day 3 — we largely know who the main contributors will be to the 2024 team after they made two big picks on the first two days of the NFL Draft.Did the Jets get a slam dunk weapon in the first round of the draft? No, but they were able to make their roster better with a pick that wasn’t the flashiest pick but was the right pick. And then they managed to pick up a home-run-threat playmaker in the third round. Are there some risks? For sure. But through two days of the draft, it’s hard to argue the Jets aren’t in a much better position than they were on Thursday afternoon. This was a tricky spot for Douglas with the Jets needing a wide receiver and the last of the consensus top 3, Washington’s Rome, coming off the board to the Bears with the ninth overall pick, just before the Jets went on the clock at No. 10. There had to be the temptation to overdraft one of the other receivers. But Douglas didn’t take the bait. There’s an argument to be made that Douglas shouldn’t have had to pick a tackle here after drafting one in 2020 in Mekhi Becton and another last year in Carter Warren. But it’s better to get it right now than never. Plus, Douglas once again proved that he knows how to work the trade market during the draft, extracting multiple picks out of Minnesota to move down a pick i n the draft from No. 10 to 11. Combine all that with the Jets getting a player who can both help them long-term as their tackle of the future and help them right now if Tyron Smith or Morgan Moses isn’t able to play in at some point this fall. This provided another test of of Douglas’ patience during the second round. And with receivers flying off the board late in the first round and early in the second round, Douglas could have been tempted to use a significant amount of his remaining draft capital to jump into the second round and grab Corley earlier. But he didn’t until the start of the third round, when he moved up seven picks to grab Corley who was projected by The Athletic as the 11th-best receiver in this pass-catching-rich draft. Plus, in an offense where yards after the catch have been an unrealized priority, snagging one of the best in college football in doing just that — there’s a reason he’s known as the “YAC King” — should give this offense a much-needed boost. Through the first two days it’s hard to argue that the Jets aren’t far deeper, with more weapons and protection for Rodgers than they were a year ago — when they had so much hype surrounding them. And getting him a playmaker who can is known for getting yardage after the catch can only help the rest of the offense.
