Yes, Jaxon Smith-Njigba has blossomed in recent weeks, but fans shouldn’t confuse his production with an ability to take over as the Seahawks top receiver just yet.
Following the Week 8 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Field Gulls took a look at how the Bills defense played the Seattle Seahawks offense differently with DK Metcalf sidelined with a knee injury, and the impact that had on the rest of the offense. In the two games since second year wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has had two of the best games of his young career, hauling in 17 of 24 targets sent his way for 290 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Metcalf and JSN are lined up next to each other on the far side, with three defenders dropping into coverage. Smith-Njigba breaks out, while DK runs a post route, and two of the three defenders on that side of the field stay with Metcalf, again leaving JSN with a one-on-one matchup. The next clip is a series of three plays, all out of similar formations which have Metcalf isolated on one side of the field.
