Researchers have developed innovative AI algorithms to improve the design and efficiency of radiation shielding for next-gen nuclear reactors.
Scientists at the NEAL of the University of South China have developed a novel radiation-shielding optimization method to improve the design and efficiency of radiation shielding, particularly for next-generation nuclear reactor s.“In recent years, the development of new types of nuclear reactor s, such as transportable, marine, and space reactors, has presented new challenges for the optimization of reactor radiation-shielding design,” said the researchers in a new study.
The new algorithms developed by the NEAL team overcome these limitations by integrating the reference point selection strategy with established optimization techniques – genetic algorithms and artificial bee colony algorithms .“In this study, genetic and artificial bee-colony algorithms are combined with a reference-point-selection strategy and applied to the many-objective optimal design of reactor radiation shielding,” explained the research team.
