The next installment in the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise could change the series' lore forever. With the upcoming theatrical story of Aang: The Last Airbender set for January 2026, more details about other projects from Avatar Studios are being revealed.
The most recent announcement concerned another upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender TV show, now revealed to be titled Avatar: Seven Havens. Of the details revealed so far about the show, several catch the eye. For one, the show is confirmed to focus on another Avatar in the cycle after Aang as the direct successor of Avatar Korra. Given what is known about the cycle of The Last Airbender's Four Nations and their connection to the Avatar, this character will be a female Earthbender. Beyond that, other intriguing story details have been divulged, including an aspect of the new Avatar's character that marks an exciting new direction for the lore of the series. Avatar: Seven Havens' Main Character Will Be A Twin A Seeming First For The Avatar Spirit The aspect of the character in question in Avatar: Seven Havens is that the titular figure will be a twin. The synopsis for the upcoming series was released by Avatar Studios, explaining that the main character will be "hunted by both human and spirit enemies" and that "she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens." The detail that the Avatar is a twin is incredibly exciting, based on the implications it could have for the overall lore of The Last Airbender. As far as audiences know, there has never been a twin Avatar. Both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra delved into other versions of the Avatar before Aang and Korra, from Roku and Kyoshi to Yangchen, Kuruk, and even the first Avatar Wan. All of these were singular people, marking a big change for Avatar: Seven Havens given that the figure has a twin. Naturally, this raises a great number of intriguing questions. How Avatar: Seven Havens' Twin Avatar Changes The Franchise's Lore The most obvious change that Avatar: Seven Havens is making to the franchise's lore has been alluded to, with the concept of a twin Avatar seemingly being first debuted here. The concept of twins has been explored in Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra before, with both leading to interesting arguments and discussions. For example, two Earth Kingdom twins were highlighted in The Last Airbender season 1, episode 14,"The Fortuneteller," with one being an Earthbender and the other being a regular human. This raises the possibility that both twins have the power of the Avatar, essentially two halves of one whole who both possess Raava's spirit... The Legend of Korra took this one step further. That show revealed twins like Eska and Desna, two Waterbenders, and the Beifong twins Wei and Wing, who were both proficient in Earthbending and Metalbending. All that said, the concept of an Avatar being a twin has never been raised, changing the lore of the show. This raises the possibility that both twins have the power of the Avatar, essentially two halves of one whole who both possess Raava's spirit. If not, one twin would be the Avatar while the other would not. Either way, the ramifications this could have on Avatar: Seven Havens' story are endlessly exciting and change The Last Airbender's lore in the best way.
