The theories have even split NewJeans. “To be honest, it kind of sounded like a horror movie [at first],” Hanni says. As she learned more about the deeper meanings, however, the storyline seemed “heartfelt and very much sentimental.” Minji is more drawn to the idea of fandom symbolism, specifically with their fanbase, called Bunnies. “The story is also talking about Bunnies and our relationship,” she posits.
Eldest member Minji, who was a trainee at other companies before ADOR, grew up in Chuncheon, South Korea. “When I was a little kid, my parents always told me to look on the bright side,” she says. Minji brings a cool, chill energy to the conversation, attentive to the younger members but not overbearing. “Now I’m also a really positive person.” She looks to the other members and says, hopeful, “Right?” They all laugh, and Hanni nods fervently.
Before Danielle can even explain fully what she was like as a little kid, the members are laughing. “I was a daredevil,” she says in her lilting Aussie accent. She’s Korean Australian, born in Newcastle, and remembers she was “always curious about things and wanted to learn about things. Even in class, when a teacher would ask a question, I wouldn’t know the answer and I’d just put my hand up.
