Calvert-Lewin is likely to be a direct replacement for Callum Wilson
forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin in a deal that would spark the first move in a major overhaul at St James’ Park this summer.
While the move might raise eyebrows it makes sense for Eddie Howe, who is looking to shake up his attacking options with both an experienced forward and a versatile, younger forward before the end of the transfer window.Calvert-Lewin would likely be a straight replacement for Callum Wilson, who is almost certain to depart this summer, and his recent injury record has been much better.
Newcastle’s transfer plans have been dominated by players they believe have hidden value and the forward’s contractual situation – along with Everton’s need to sell players – makes him very attractive to the Magpies. Intriguingly, Everton are also firm admirers of Minteh and there’s a possibility that if they do a deal it could help solve Newcastle’s PSR issues.
