A woman brought a baby to a St. Johns County fire station Friday afternoon after she found the newborn inside a box on the side of a road, according to the St. Johns County Fire Rescue Department.

A woman brought a baby to a St. Johns County fire station Friday afternoon after she found the newborn in a box on the side of a road, according to the St. Johns County Fire Rescue Department.

According to the spokesperson, a woman, who is not the mother, told firefighters she found the newborn inside a box on the side of a road on Silverleaf Parkway. She then took the baby to Fire Station 17 on County Road 210, according to officials.Firefighters took the baby to Wolfson Children’s Emergency Room on Old St. Augustine Road for evaluation.

According to the fire department, the doctor said the baby, who is estimated to be a few days old, is healthy “outside of being a little cranky” when found. This is a developing story.
