Students transferred out of the school include Haynes’ daughter, who is Black, following an altercation with a Latina classmate. A Latino friend of the classmate was later transferred after he tried to approach Haynes outside the school the night of a Black Student Union meeting on Jan. 3, when Baraka happened to be present, and his Newark Police security officer kept the student away from the board president.
