The governor proposed sending the checks to New York families making $300,000 or less.

New York residents would receive checks for up to $500 next year as part of a new proposal from Gov. Kathy Hochul.

“It’s your money,” Hochul said at Co-Op City in the Bronx, where she announced her proposal. “It should go back in your pockets.” Hochul’s office estimates that 8.6 million New Yorkers would be eligible, including 3.6 million in New York City.
