Police in Suffolk County, New York, responded to a shark attack at Kismet Beach on Monday evening after a teenage surfer was bit on the foot.
said officers with the Marine Bureau responded to reports of a surfer being bitten by a shark at Kismet Beach on Fire Island, a barrier island off the coast of Long Island.
The teenager was able to swim back to shore, where a Good Samaritan provided medical attention until the officers arrived to take over. Earlier in the day, a 15-year-old girl was treated after suffering three small puncture wounds on her left leg at Robert Moses State Park, which borders Kismet Beach to the west.
