released last month, the city of New York saw a fall in every major crime category in April 2019 compared to April 2018. This includes a reduction in the number of felony assaults, from 1,612 in April 2018 to 1,566 in the same period this year.

In total, there were 6,891 reports of major crime, including murder, rape, assault and robbery, in New York during April 2019, compared to 7,337 in April 2018. "New York City has seen a dramatic reduction in crime, and we continue to make history and set new records by facing the challenges together," Police Commissioner James P. O'Neill said in a statement."I want to thank the dedicated members of the NYPD who tackle violent crime with precision and are forging stronger bonds with the public—and everyone who plays a role in a safe city—with their problem solving and professionalism.

The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 then enter TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential.

The attack attack occurred at 10:41 p.m. on June 23 on the platform of the Woodhaven Boulevard station in New York.
