New York lawmakers passed a state budget containing a provision banning select new residential buildings from using natural gas.The ban will go into effect in 2026 on new residential buildings seven stories and under. For new buildings over seven stories, the ban goes into effect in 2029. Exemptions from the ban include fossil-fuel powered backup generators, laboratories, car washes and commercial food establishments.
