President Biden’s trip to New York City wasn’t met with a warm welcome from Mayor Eric Adams as the two are not seeing eye-to-eye on how much the federal government should be helping the city with the migrant crisis.
Mr. Biden arrived in New York City on Sunday for the United Nations General Assembly and is staying until Wednesday. And while he’s meeting leaders from around the world, he is not scheduled to see Mr. Adams.
The two have been at odds over the lackluster federal response to the migrant crisis. The mayor has repeatedly asked the president for funds to handle the issue, and to figure out a way to shift the influx of migrants that the city is seeing — more than 100,000 over the past year. “President Biden is coming to the city,” Mr. Adams said at an event Tuesday. “I’m hoping that he understands this beautiful city that’s the economic engine of the entire country is being saddled with a $2 billion [cost] that we spent already, $5 billion we’re going to spend in this fiscal crisis, $12 billion in the next two budgetary cycles.”The mayor said that while Mr. Biden’s in town, “they should really reflect on, New York City has done its part.”“I’m very public.
