Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand spoke Thursday morning, calling for funding to ensure the state is prepared for wildfires and other threats.

If approved, the resources would help train firefighters, manage New York's forests and educate the public on fire safety. 'This week I'm sending a letter to the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services requesting information on our state's readiness to combat wildfires,' Gillibrand explained. 'New Yorkers cannot simply ignore the threat of wildfires any longer. We need to make sure that we are prepared to keep our communities, properties and first responders safe.' Gillibrand also talked about using federal grants to provide fire crews with better equipment and training to help them battle larger fires
