PUBLISHED 5:45 PM ET Mar. 30, 2023Donald Trump's attorney said Thursday he was informed that a New York grand jury voted to indict the former president, per The Associated Press.
The indictment is under seal and has not been made public yet. The Manhattan district attorney could not be reached for comment. Manhattan prosecutors have been presenting a case to the grand jury that centers on the president using his business and attorney to illegally structure a $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to keep her from going public about an affair she said she had with him years earlier, a move that may involve falsifying business records and violating campaign finance laws.
Trump’s company “grossed up” Cohen’s reimbursement for the Daniels payment to defray tax payments, according to federal prosecutors who filed criminal charges against the lawyer in connection with the payments in 2018. In all, Cohen got $360,000 plus a $60,000 bonus, for a total of $420,000.
