A New York family that had been in lockdown in Tel Aviv since Hamas' surprise attack in Israel is finally heading home.

Marc Cohen shared the update on X, which is the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Monday morning.

"Please continue to pray for Israel, her people, and those seeking safety from these acts of terrorism," he added. "It’s a very special place for me, for my family," Cohen said. "My parents have never been. My wife Emily had never been and so, we came on a trip, just a family trip to learn and to explore and it turned into something very different just a couple of days into the trip."

"We -- multiple times last night -- were in our rooms essentially as you said, sheltering in place, and then as we heard the general alarm sound and then our hotel alarm sound, we ran to the bomb shelter and waited until we got the all clear and repeated that process multiple times," he said."It’s not a drill. You follow the rules. You get yourself to a bomb shelter," he said. "In hotels in Israel, oftentimes, those bomb shelters are the stairwells.
